Final OP-ED

This measure appeared on the ballot on the November 4 2008 Ballot. For those who don’t Know Issue 6 did not pass and will not pass. Though Berman says that the casino will help Ohio and the economy, there have not been any jobs provided to an Ohioan by Berman or his company. Issue 6 has been on the Ballot for the past couple of elections and has not pass or came close to passing once, so why do they keep on forcing the issue. With the economy declining form the recent year Lakes Entertainment is trying to fix that problem in Ohio by placing a casino in Wilmington Ohio. Berman is just trying to take advantage of the weakness of some Ohioans that are currently unemployed.

DHL in Wilmington Ohio closed back in the end of summer and has put 7000 workers on a walk looking for another job. Berman says he give 5000 jobs paying on average 34,000 dollars a year but he is not going to come through with these needed jobs. Thousands are unemployed and one casino will not bring in that many jobs and that many players. The casino will not bring in the needed help with taxes because Berman and Company will be walking away with majority of the income.

One casino will not stop gamblers from leaving the state to play in Las Vegas or Atlantic City where gambling is booming and the atmosphere around those casinos is made for the income and problems of casinos. Ohio does not have the surrounding attraction or entertainment to hold a casino and it inhabitants. Ohio does not have little wedding chapels and huge hotels all around the area that will hold the gamblers. Unemployment can be solved with hard work and dedication and not a casino being forced into the Ohio constitution. Berman has been caught for no paying taxes in a Louisiana casino and if he did it one he can do it again. Ohio will not stoop to the point of breaking their own constitution to gain jobs that are not guaranteed. Ohio is surrounded by states with casinos and the profit that they bring in helps but does not give the rest of the residents a tax break.

We remain convinced that regardless of the additional tax revenue promised by casino operators, the social costs of gambling are, in the end, higher. Casino gambling is the biggest waste of redistribution of the wealth ever invented; it takes from the poor and gives to the rich.. There will not be a casino in Ohio so plan to go to Vegas and have a good time.

Attitude change in the Quarter

At the begining of the quarter i did not like English and i still don’t like english but my thoughts and ideas of the way i see literal texts and english related stuff differently. I dont mind having to take an english class but i will never pick to take an english class. the class has changed my outlook on weblogs and other english texts that you can find on the web but it was a good class.

I will not use tis weblog in the future for any reason. If i do open a weblog it will be only if i choose to become a writer and i want to get my work on the web and out to the public.

There are some rules to writing an OP-ED, Write with precision, Write with persuasion. With out these two very important ways of writing there would be no audience and no one would read the artical. Whatever is your point of view, write persuasively. The author has to capture his readers’ attention, inform them about a complex issue, set out options, and persuade them of his own views. The logos, the argument, Do you have something original to say? Can you explain it in three crisp sentences. These are the many rules of an OP-Ed and with practice and the use of rules the OP-ED will be entertaining.

OP-Ed Organization

There are many different organization strategies with an OP-ED. First start out with a well planned and researched topic. It also has to be timely relivent and worth while. The topic has to be well explained and have many opinions and arguments. The author of the OP-ED that i read had a very timely and interesting his argument was clear and was well backed up with evidence.

ANALYTICAL RESEARCH PROJECT

WITH MY RESEARCH PROJECT I CHOSE ISSUE SIX IN OHIO. THE RIGHT TO A CASINO OR THE RIGHT TO SPEND TAX DOLLARS IN ANOTHER STATE. ISSUE 6 IS THE ONGOING ATTEMPT TO GET AT LEAST ONE CASINO IN OHIO. LYLE BERMAN IS THE MAN IN CHARGE AND HAS NOT HAD THE GREATEST HISTORY WITH CASINO IN THE PAST. THIS IS NOT AS BAD AS THE MILLION THAT HE CAME AWAY WITH WHEN THE LAST CASINO DIED. ISSUE 6 IS A BIG ISSUE AND IS DID NOT PASS BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF TRUST BERMAN HOLDS.
